Sound and emotions

First sounds we hear are inside the mothers womb (at 18th week of pregnancy). Babies also respond to mothers stress (emotions are contagious). Team of US researchers attempted to find out what baby can hear in the womb through recordings from the inner ear of a fetal sheep. They have discovered low frequencies reach the womb but those higher pitched aren’t quite clearly heard by the baby, just a muffled sound. Volunteers have listened to the recordings and identified 40% of the words. It means whatever mothers do, hears and speaks affects the baby.

Sounds make us feel emotions, remind us of the good and bad times we have experienced. There is a strong connection between sound and emotions. And it starts very early, just like touch – sound is important. Like breathing. Silence or loudness. It always has an impact on humans brain and emotions.

The Voice

Lalah Hathaway – once I found out about her I was amazed and mind blown. Grammy award winner for “Best R&B Vocal Performance”. Lalah doing something what seems to be physically impossible which is SINGING CHORDS! She has proved human body is capable of it. I guess she doesn’t necessary need backing vocals every time she performs, I mean she can harmonise with herself. I’m still wondering how is this possible, what technique would help me to achieve it.

What I really appreciate is the fact Lalah doesn’t show off, but keeps this skill until the end of the song which makes it even more special. Unexpected for people that never heard it before. I just wish I could hear it live.

Great performance of Lalah Hathaway with amazing Snarky Puppy band. Watching till very end is a must!

Patterning drum machine

Technology. Sometimes I’m wondering if absolutely everything that human do will be replaced by machines. Do we even need to know music theory or play any instruments to make amazing music? (I’m talking playing instruments on advanced level, not pushing keyboards keys like buttons with funky fingers). If you’re producer- not really. If you wanna perform live, compose and use advanced harmonies then I’d say yes.

There’s loads of apps that make us understand music in a better way. One of them is Patterning Drum Machine app. I find it incredibly easy to use, with loads of options to explore different rhythms and learn about them too. It’s basically unlimited. It comes in 2 versions: iPad and mobile. It has different loops for each pattern, draw/erase tools, built in sample library, mixer section and many more. And it’s also very addictive in my opinion. Time consuming in good way, the good technology.

Radio and its benefits

Radio has so much to offer not just entertainment. With the device you can listen to the radio for free. It can be listened everywhere in the world, it gives a feeling of belonging to the community because every area and country have their own channels and radio stations. With different local news and music, artists.

It help people to feel less lonely at home or during the travels, presenters have important role because the might affect people mood sharing good or bad news.

It help to escape life’s pressures, discover new music or listen to the talk shows. Or even enter the games to win prizes. It is a fantastic world for more to discover every single day.

Podcast in the radio

Have you ever travelled and your journey has been going so slow and tried to make it more enjoyable? Podcast is a new way of listening to the radio – it does not need to be live but podcast a prerecorded version of it. Everyone is able to find something they are interested in, from music to science, politics or psychology.

People who record podcast need to be have good diction, be creative, quick-witted and make it interesting for the listener. Podcasts length varies from a few minutes to couple of hours. And it can be recorded from home or the studio with professional actors or presenters. It is basically for everyone to record or to listen and it can be very educational.

Radio propaganda and the power of the radio

Radio is a mass media that has a big audience all over the world. That is why it has been used or could be used as a tool of propaganda. From the history we know how Nazi Germany used the potential of the radio to control the public opinion. They shared fake news to cause the riots and finally divide people. History remembers the examples of radio being used in a good way like during I WW “underground secret” radio. This has helped inform each other about danger in the streets and the political situation and war. We live in the times where radio is being used mainly to entertain and share news and hope that it isn’t going to be used the way its been during the I WW or the II WW.

Locuscast

I’ve used the app for the first time and… I found it very useful! It’s pretty easy to use and we can share the sound and hear ourselves. Listen to someone’s surroundings from anywhere in the world, jungle sound live without living the bedroom, how amazing is that? I can stream playing my instrument and get a really good quality sound, I can use it as a rehearsal tool with a band. I have not done it yet, but I’m planning to!
